Have you been debating whether or not it makes sense to advertise on Facebook? The Facebook Quarterly Report and the Pew Research Center both recently published some interesting stats that show the broad reach of the social network.
Here’s an at-a-glance look at who is on Facebook:
- 1.71 billion people worldwide … that’s billion with a “B”!
- 64 percent of the entire U.S. population.
- 77 percent of female internet users.
- 72 percent of all adult internet users … that’s 7 out of 10 people who use a smartphone, tablet, or computer!
- 66 percent of male internet users.
- 79 percent of internet users between the ages of 30 and 49.
- 64 percent of internet users between the ages of 50 and 64.
- 48 percent of internet users ages 65+.
At the very least, these numbers should show you that many (probably most) of your valuable customers and prospects are active Facebook users. If you are on the fence about whether or not to start advertising through Facebook, think of it this way: If you decide to hold off, the only marketing messages and special offers your customers and prospects will see will be from competitors. That’s sobering.
